Access Network

With the extensive backbone network roll out, RailTel brings to market high bandwidth services portfolio for data connectivity across various market segments. RailTel has attracted customers from all major verticals like Service Providers, Enterprises, Govt./PSU departments, Banking & Financial Institutions, Universities, Defense among others. This has necessitated building equally strong access network in all important cities across country.
Accordingly, RailTel has created a fiber access network in over 150 important cities of the country. Most of the commercials hubs within these cities have been connected with backbone network so as to enable timely & efficient delivery of various services to our customers. The access network is capable of offering various interface choices to the customers including E1, DS3, STM-1 and Ethernet. There is no mixing of traffic belonging to other customers on the Access network. Each subscriber is assigned dedicated bandwidth that is not shared with anyone else.
In addition to above, RailTel is also rolling out a broadband wireless access (BWA) network across India based on WiMax/Wi-Fi platform. RailTel has been allotted wireless frequency spectrum on 2.8 GHz band across 43 cities. BWA is a standards-based WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) technology for "last mile" solutions that can connect customers to the RailTel ISP/ MPLS POPs through high-speed wireless access. Typical Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system is composed of two key elements- base station and subscriber equipment. The base station connects to the subscriber equipment using an outdoor antenna to send and receive high speed data to subscriber equipment, thereby eliminating the need of wire line infrastructure and provides flexible and cost effective last mile solution. Other advantages include:

Easy plug & play solution

Highly secured last mile
Ethernet interface availability
High uptime
Ease of bandwidth upgradation
For other cities, the wireless network is being provisioned on the unlicensed band viz. 2.4 GHz & 5.8 GHz. The solution includes both point-to-point & point-to-multipoint access network depending upon the feasibility of the location.
